As a member of ASTM D11 and D24, I was the principal author or driving force for the following ASTM standards:
- In 1980’s, was the driving force for “target values” for surface area and oil absorption numbers for the carbon blacks given in ASTM D1765
- As Past Chairman of ASTM D11.20 on Rubber Compounding Materials, I created the raw material classification system to become ASTM D5899 in the 1980’s
- Developed ASTM Standards for characterizing and classifying the following raw materials:
- ASTM D4295 Zinc Oxide
- ASTM D4578 Sulfur
- ASTM D4676 Antidegradants
- ASTM D4677 Titanium Dioxide
- ASTM D4817 Stearic Acid
- ASTM D4818 Accelerators
- ASTM D4924 Waxes
- ASTM D5377 Ground Coal
- ASTM D5603 Crumb Rubber
- Around 1990s, wrote Descriptions and Specifications for all the IRMs (Industrial Reference Materials).which became ASTM D5900.which gives the specifications for the following IRMs
- IRM 1 TMTD
- IRM 2 MBTS
- IRM 3 TBBS
- IRM 21 Stearic Acid
- IRM 31 Sulfur
- IRM 91 Zinc Oxide
- IRM 100 Precipitated Silica
- IRM 241 Butyl Rubber
- IRM 901 Petroleum Oil
- IRM 902 Petroleum Oil
- IRM 903 Petroleum Oil
- IRM 905 Petroleum Oil
- We currently maintain the IRM Inventory posted on the ASTM Website and conduct ASTM D11.20.02 Task Group for Industry Reference Materials (IRMs)
- After the year 2000, as member and later Chairman of ASTM D11.12 on Rubber Processability, developed and wrote the following processability tests:
- ASTM D6204 Part A – Low strain RPA Frequency Sweep
- ASTM D6204 Part B – High strain RPA Frequency Sweep
- ASTM D6204 Part C – Thermal Ramp RPA Cure Test
- ASTM D6601 – RPA Cured dynamic properties of rubber compounds, typically at 100° and 60° C
- ASTM D6600 – Statistical Test Sensitivity (Signal to Noise Ration)
- ASTM D7050 – RPA High Strain Testing of Natural Rubber
- ASTM D7605 – RPA type testing of TPVs and TPEs.
- ASTM D8059 – Payne Effect test method for compounds with colloidal silica or carbon black dispersions in a rubber compound.
